Ganduje begs for Kano residents’ forgiveness in farewell message
Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, the outgoing Governor of Kano State, begged forgiveness from those he may have offended in the course of his duties as the state's number one citizen on Saturday evening in Kano.
Ganduje's two-term, eight-year tenure will end on May 29, 2023, when he is expected to hand over power to the governor-elect of the opposition New Nigeria People's Party, Abba Kabir Yusuf.
"Forgive me, for I have forgiven all," the governor said during a Ramadan lecture series at Al-Furqan Juma'at Mosque in Nasarawa GRA Kano.
"I've forgiven anyone who at one time disparaged my person, and my character for whatever reasons," Ganduje said in his farewell message, "and on my part, I equally begged or seek your forgiveness for all that I've done wrong to you."
He drew inspiration from Islam, saying that "as espoused by the leader of this Mosque, forgiveness occupies a prime spot in our religion."
"My tenure as Kano state governor has come to an end, and this is a farewell greeting." I wish you the best of luck. For those we have wronged, forgive us; for my part, I have forgiven those who have wronged me regardless of the gravity of the offense."
Muazu Magaji, Ganduje's former Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, responded quickly, saying, "Yes, I have forgiven you, but I will never forget how you plotted to eliminate me from the surface of the earth on a number of occasions."
Magaji mentioned three locations on his verified Facebook timeline where he allegedly escaped death at the hands of his former boss.
