Four Individuals Injured in Gas Explosion Incident in Lagos
Four people have sustained injuries as a result of a gas explosion that occurred in the early hours of Monday in Lagos.
The incident took place at Ijaiye, near the Apostolic Church in Agege, where a shop containing gas cylinders caught fire.
According to the preliminary report from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the explosion was triggered by a gas leakage, which led to one of the cylinders exploding and subsequently igniting the fire.
The impact of the incident was contained within the affected shop, successfully preventing damage to nearby shops and adjacent buildings.
Fortunately, there were no fatalities reported. However, four adults, consisting of three females and one male, sustained second-degree burn injuries due to the incident. They are currently receiving medical attention from the prehospital care team of the agency, in collaboration with LASAMBUS.
Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyitolu, the Director-General of LASEMA, confirmed that the victims have been transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) for further medical attention.
Through the collaborative efforts of LASEMA LRT (Emergency Response Team) and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the fire has been successfully extinguished, bringing the inferno under control.
Following the incident, a thorough assessment was carried out by the Agency's LRT (Emergency Response Team) in conjunction with the Lagos State Government Fire Service. As a precautionary measure to prevent any potential secondary incident, the affected shop has been cordoned off.
