Fake Senator Arrested by EFCC for Alleged €5.7 Million Internet Fraud
Ifechukwu Tom Makwe, an imposter claiming to be a Senator, has been apprehended by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on charges of alleged €5.7 million (Five Million, Seven Hundred Thousand euros) internet fraud.
Following credible intelligence regarding his involvement in internet-related fraudulent activities, Ifechukwu Tom Makwe was arrested in the Guzape area of Abuja.
Upon his arrest, it was revealed that the suspect had adopted various aliases such as Fahad Makwe, Senator Tompolo, Tom Makwe, and Dr. Bran. He is accused of defrauding a Spaniard of €5.7 million (Five Million, Seven Hundred Thousand Euros).
Makwe, allegedly posing as a US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agent and diplomatic solicitor, utilized fake identities to deceive and defraud his victim. The fraudulent activities are believed to have commenced in 2013, when he first established contact with the victim through social media.
Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesperson for the EFCC, stated that Makwe will face charges in court once the investigations have been concluded.
