FG eyes WEF collaboration on African Atlantic Gas Pipeline
The Federal Government of Nigeria intends to work with the World Economic Forum on the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline project, which will connect Nigeria to Morocco and other African countries in order to improve regional energy security and economic growth. The President's Spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, made the announcement on his official Twitter page on Friday, following a bilateral meeting between Vice President Kashim Shettima and WEF President, Mr. Børge Brende.
The meeting was held in Davos, Switzerland, during the ongoing World Economic Forum annual conference.
Shettima emphasized that the pipeline would transport natural gas from Nigeria to North Africa and Europe, with the goal of improving energy security and stimulating regional economic growth.
"We are looking forward to working with you on important issues. One is on the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline (AAGP), which will connect Nigeria, Morocco, and other African countries. The pipeline will transport natural gas from Nigeria to North Africa and Europe, boosting energy security and economic growth in the region.
"With the geopolitical challenges in Europe caused by Russian gas problems, as well as the rising demand for energy as a result of artificial intelligence, data mining, and storage, we will be well-positioned to capitalize on this opportunity.
"Many littoral states in West Africa that have discovered gas are eager to plug into the system and distribute their gas to other end users." We are also investigating the possibility of pipelines passing beneath the sea in order to benefit everyone. "We want to use the WEF platform," he explained.
The Vice President stated that several West African countries with gas reserves are eager to connect to the pipeline system, with plans to explore undersea routes for mutual benefit.
In addition to the pipeline project, Shettima highlighted the ongoing reforms under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, emphasizing that these initiatives are paving the way for Nigeria's long-term economic growth.
He also expressed his country's readiness to host the World Economic Forum Africa Summit.
Shettima emphasized Nigeria's role as Africa's largest economy, as well as its demographic significance as one of the continent's most populous countries, with a population of 250 million people.
