EFCC arrests alleged serial Canadian visa scammer in Abuja
On Friday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arrested Enock Ogungbamigbe, an alleged visa serial scammer who specialises in duping Nigerians desperate to migrate to Canada, either to work or further their education, with bogus visa and job offers.
The 32-year-old, who owns a Garden in Mpape, an Abuja suburb, was picked up by anti-graft operatives at the Transcorp Hotel in Abuja when he responded to an appointment to procure a visa for an applicant intending to migrate to Canada. He had no idea it was bait.
Wilson Uwujaren, the EFCC's Director of Media and Publicity, revealed this in a statement obtained by our correspondent on Friday.
He stated that Ogungbamigbe's arrest was the result of a petition filed by a victim who had lost N5 million to the suspect in processing fees for a visa to Canada.
"The suspect had also promised the victim a job upon arrival in Canada," Uwujaren said. But he only gave his victims fake Visas, and all attempts to recover the money were futile.
"As soon as the investigation is completed, the suspect will be charged in court."
