Chinese hackers target Trump, Vance’s phones
According to the New York Times, Chinese hackers infiltrated Verizon's systems and targeted the phones of US Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and his running mate, JD Vance. In response, investigators are currently determining which communications, if any, were compromised during the breach.
This week, the Trump campaign learnt that Trump and Vance were among several individuals, both inside and outside the government, whose phone numbers were obtained through the Verizon infiltration.
This incident comes after a separate hacking incident earlier this year, for which the US Justice Department charged three members of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps. These charges were linked to an attempt to disrupt the upcoming November 5 election.
