British Prime Minister Visits Israel to Hold Discussions with Netanyahu and Denounces Attacks

On Thursday, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak expressed his strong condemnation of what he called an "unfathomable and horrendous act of terrorism" in Israel. He joined the growing list of Western leaders making solidarity visits to the country.

Sunak conveyed his unwavering support, stating, "I want to assure you that the United Kingdom and I stand firmly by your side." His visit included meetings with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog.

Sunak emphasized that Israel was grappling with a profound sense of mourning and assured that the United Kingdom stood resolutely against the malevolence of terrorism.

His visit follows the recent presence of US President Joe Biden in Israel on Wednesday and Germany's Chancellor Olaf Scholz earlier in the week. Additional visits from other leaders are anticipated.

Before his departure, Sunak stated that he would focus on efforts to prevent a broader regional conflict following the October 7 attacks by Hamas, which resulted in approximately 1,400 casualties in Israel.

He is also anticipated to advocate for increased humanitarian assistance to be allowed into Gaza. The Hamas-controlled health ministry reports that approximately 3,500 individuals have lost their lives in Israeli air raids since the attacks.

Furthermore, Britain has expanded its Palestinian aid package.

Israel has announced its intention to permit the entry of food, water, and medicine into the distressed region through Egypt.

Simultaneously, the British Foreign Secretary, James Cleverly, is scheduled to embark on visits to Egypt, Turkey, and Qatar in the upcoming days, as stated by the government.
