Bird strike disrupts flight at Abuja airport

A bird strike occurred during the landing of an Air Peace flight bound for Abuja on Saturday.

A bird strike is an incident in which a bird collides with an aircraft during takeoff, landing, or flight.

According to a statement issued by Air Peace management, the aircraft that took off from Asaba, Delta State's capital, landed safely and passengers disembarked safely.

However, the airline expressed its sympathies to customers whose flights were impacted by the incident, adding that an arrangement had been made for another aircraft to operate on the rotation.

"This is to inform the flying public and our esteemed customers that our Asaba-Abuja flight- P47866- experienced a bird strike upon landing in Abuja on Saturday, April 8, 2023," the statement said.

"The aircraft, registered ES-SAZ, landed safely, and the passengers disembarked normally."

"While we deeply sympathize with passengers whose flights have been disrupted as a result of this unforeseen development, another aircraft has been scheduled to operate Abuja-Asaba, Asaba-Lagos, and other flights on that rotation."

"Be assured that we strictly adhere to established safety standards."

Attempts to contact Tunji Oketunbi, General Manager, Public Affairs, Nigerian Safety and Investigation Bureau, were futile at the time of filing this report.
