Biafra Militants Clash with Soldiers in Bakassi, Resulting in Three Casualties
In a reported exchange of gunfire between separatist militants allied with the Biafra Nations League (BNL) and the Rapid d’Intervention Battalions (BIR), a unit of the Cameroonian armed forces, three soldiers have allegedly lost their lives. The BIR purportedly attempted to invade the Atabong East communities in the Idabato subdivision of the Bakassi Peninsula, leading to engagement in a gun battle with the Biafra militants. The incident, according to information gathered by Naija News, took place around 4 pm on October 31. The defensive counterattack on the BIR, identified as an elite force of the Cameroon President, was reportedly executed by the Dragon Fighter Marine, a faction of the BnL. It is reported that three Cameroonian soldiers were casualties in the ensuing shootout. The Biafra separatists are said to operate on the outskirts of the Bakassi Peninsula. According to sources quoted by Daily Post, the battle for control of Idabato lasted less than 30 minutes, forcing the BIR to retreat from the area. Reportedly, the Cameroonians suffered casualties as they walked into an ambush, with the militant group opening fire from behind. However, as of the time of filing this report, Nigerian authorities have not issued any official statement either confirming or refuting the event.
