Asset Declaration: The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) warns of potential prosecution for political app

The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) has issued a warning of potential prosecution for political appointees in Enugu State who have not submitted their Asset Declaration forms to the bureau by September 30. Mrs. Lucy Ijetta, the Director of the Code of Conduct Bureau in Enugu State, conveyed this threat in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Enugu.

She reported that out of the 58 Asset Declaration Forms distributed to political appointees, only 23 public officials have submitted their completed CCB-1 forms to her office.

However, she urged the recently appointed Commissioners, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, and all appointed Heads of Corporate Institutions who have not yet submitted their Beginning of Tenure Asset Declaration Forms to promptly do so.

She warned, "Failure to adhere to this directive would constitute a violation of the Code, and I will be compelled to forward their names to the Code of Conduct Tribunal for prosecution."

She further stated, "Please be aware that you have until the end of this month, September, to comply with this directive. For those who have not yet received Asset Declaration Forms, you can obtain them at the SSG's office from Prof Obiamaka Egbo, Special Adviser to the Governor on Public Financial Management, or at the Code of Conduct Bureau Office, Room 201, Federal Secretariat, Independence Layout, Enugu."

According to her,  in pursuant to section 11(i), (a) and (b) of the third schedule of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, every public officer shall immediately after taking office, submit to the Code of Conduct Bureau, a written declaration of all his property.

Other assets, she listed, were assets and liabilities and that of his spouse and unmarried children under the age of 18 years. (NAN)
