Army Chief Lagbaja Pledge to Eradicate Kidnapping and Assassinations in South-East
Assurances have been given by Lt-General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, that the days of insecurity in the South-East region will soon be relegated to history.
Lagbaja has affirmed that, in conjunction with other security agencies, the Nigerian Army is committed to working tirelessly to eradicate kidnappings, banditry, and assassinations from the South-East.
This pledge was expressed during a meeting with the House of Representatives Ad-Hoc committee, which is conducting an investigation into the incidents of killing and kidnapping in the Umunneochi community of Abia State.
Representing the Army Chief at the meeting was Brigadier General Gabriel Olufemi Esho, the Deputy Director of Operations at Army Headquarters.
Lagbaja highlighted the severity of the kidnapping issue in the two specific local government areas. He firmly reiterated his dedication to addressing the root causes of insecurity in the South-East and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable.
Lagbaja stated, "The House of Representatives, in their communication dated August 3, 2023, requested that the Nigerian Army provide a memorandum to the ad-hoc committee to engage with pertinent security agencies and stakeholders concerning the relentless incidents of kidnappings, assassinations, banditry, and other criminal activities in these two local government areas."
He further asserted, "It is crucial to note that the collaborative efforts of the Nigerian Army, working in tandem with other security agencies, have significantly diminished the threat posed by kidnappings recently."
