News Update: Bauchi Government Confirms Outbreak of Diphtheria and Yellow Fever
The Bauchi State government has officially confirmed the outbreak of diphtheria and yellow fever in the region as of Wednesday.
Dr. Rilwabu Mohammed, the Executive Secretary of the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (BSPHCD), verified the outbreak, reporting a total of 58 suspected cases. Among them, three cases tested positive, and sadly, two individuals have succumbed to the diseases.
Diphtheria is an acute and highly contagious bacterial illness that leads to inflammation of the mucous membrane and the formation of a false membrane in the throat, causing breathing and swallowing difficulties.
