Trial of Naira Marley in Alleged Cyber Crime Case Experiences Delay
The trial of Nigerian singer Azeez Fashola, also known as Naira Marley, facing charges of cyber crime, was stalled on Monday before a Federal Court in Lagos due to the court's non-session.
The trial judge, Justice Nicholas Owiebo, was reported to be attending a judges' conference. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is prosecuting the defendant on cyber crime charges, with the charges filed on May 14, 2019.
Fashola, famous for the song "Am I a yahoo boy," was arraigned on May 20, 2019, before Justice Nicholas Oweibo, where he pleaded not guilty.
The court had granted him bail in the amount of two million naira, along with two sureties in a similar sum.
The trial has commenced and is still in progress.
On October 6, Justice Oweibo issued a warrant for the defendant's production due to his absence from the trial on the last date.
Oweibo's order came after a request for a production warrant by the prosecution, Mrs. Bilikisu Buhari.
