Peter Obi Criticizes Political Corruption, Advocates for a Return to Parliamentary System

Labour Party's 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, stressed the urgency of a corruption-free political system during a condolence visit to the late constitutional lawyer Prof. Ben Nwabueze's residence in Lagos. Obi lamented the prevalent political corruption in Nigeria and advocated for a return to a parliamentary system, citing Nwabueze's consistent advocacy for a better Nigeria.

Obi criticized the lavish spending on vehicles for federal lawmakers, deeming constituency projects as criminal. He called for a shift to the parliamentary system, emphasizing direct representation of citizens' concerns by elected officials. Expressing discontent with the current presidential system, Obi urged accountability and modesty in government expenditures.

Reflecting on his relationship with Prof. Nwabueze, Obi praised the late lawyer's commitment to constitutional amendments and societal issues. Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State also paid tribute, recognizing Nwabueze's contributions to constitutional law and justice. Soludo expressed collective mourning for the loss of a figure whose legacy would inspire future generations.
