Obasanjo Shares Insights Into Resolving the Issues Confronting Africa

Former Nigerian president, Olusegun Obasanjo, has outlined potential solutions to the myriad challenges facing the African continent. Speaking to a delegation of students and youths from various African countries at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun state, Obasanjo emphasized that Africa's problems can be addressed through locally developed solutions.

During the discussion on Wednesday, Obasanjo urged African leaders to consider the unique characteristics of their people and develop indigenous solutions to the continent's problems. He highlighted the importance of approaching problem-solving in the right way and expressed optimism that Africa can overcome its challenges.

Obasanjo pointed to the example of achieving peace in Tigray, Ethiopia, as a demonstration of finding African solutions to African problems. He emphasized that the achievement in Tigray was in line with the long-standing call by African leaders for homegrown solutions to the continent's issues since the early 1960s.

Addressing a delegation that included student leaders from Ethiopia and the Tigray Region, led by the President of the All-Africa Students Union (AASU), Osisiogu Osikenyi, Obasanjo received their gratitude for his role in facilitating the Permanent Cessation of Hostilities Agreement between the Ethiopian government and the Tigray Peoples’ Liberation Front (TPLF) in Pretoria the previous year.

In response, the President of the Ethiopian Higher Education Institutions Students Union (EHEISU), Oli Bedane Wako, explained that the visit was a gesture of appreciation for Obasanjo's pivotal role in the historic signing of the Pretoria peace agreement. He acknowledged the immense tragedy caused by the deadliest war in the Tigray region but expressed gratitude for Obasanjo's initiative, which had saved countless lives and laid the foundation for rebuilding the war-torn region.
