Customs releases confiscated railway components to NSCDC in Niger State
On Wednesday, the Niger/Kogi Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) handed over the seized heavy railway locomotive parts to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Niger. Comptroller Busayo Kadejo, the Area Controller of the Command, made this announcement and conducted the handover ceremony at the command's headquarters in Minna.
Kadejo informed reporters that the personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service intercepted the railway parts during a surveillance operation along the Bida-Minna road on May 11.
"At approximately 10:30 a.m. on May 11, 2023, our surveillance patrol team intercepted an unregistered white Mitsubishi Canter truck along the Bida-Minna road," Kadejo explained.
He further mentioned that upon being flagged down, the driver and other occupants of the vehicle fled on foot, fearing possible arrest.
"The patrol team discovered that the vehicle was transporting vandalized railway locomotive parts that belong to the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC)," Kadejo added.
He stated that the necessary approval was obtained from the Comptroller General of Customs to facilitate the handover of the vehicle and items to the NSCDC.
"I hereby hand over the intercepted white Mitsubishi Canter, along with the railway locomotive parts, to the NSCDC," Kadejo concluded.
Upon receiving the items, Commandant Mohammed Dandare of the NSCDC in the state assured that the corps would diligently investigate the matter to identify those responsible for the crime.
"After completing our investigations, we will ensure that anyone involved in this heinous act faces prosecution, regardless of their status," Dandare stated.
