Man Utd okay £65m deal for Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo
Manchester United is reportedly set to sign Bryan Mbeumo, a winger from Cameroon, from Brentford for an initial fee of £65 million ($87 million) as Ruben Amorim intensifies his revamp of the team's struggling attack.Mbeumo caught Amorim's interest after netting 20 goals in 38 Premier League appearances for Brentford in the previous season.
Tottenham, now under the management of ex-Brentford coach Thomas Frank, were also pursuing the 25-year-old until United’s enhanced offer clinched the transfer after their earlier two proposals were turned down.
United will also provide an extra £6 million in potential incentives to Brentford.
Mbeumo is expected to have a medical examination soon enough to fly to the United States on Tuesday, where Amorim’s squad will begin their pre-season tour.
He will be United’s third acquisition since last season concluded, joining forward Matheus Cunha from Wolves and teenage Paraguayan defender Diego Leon at Old Trafford.
Amorim is eager to overhaul United’s attacking options following a disappointing campaign.
They experienced a dismal 1-0 loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final and ended up in 15th place in the league, marking their lowest standing since 1973-74.
Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee faced difficulties as Amorim’s primary strikers last season.
Reports suggest that Amorim has instructed Alejandro Garnacho to seek a new club, while Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho are likely to depart following their loan terms at Aston Villa and Chelsea, respectively.
Mbeumo will be Amorim’s latest addition as he aims to rejuvenate the struggling United squad.
Despite not qualifying for the Champions League, which cost the club at least £70 million, United has already spent £62.5 million on Cunha and continues its spending spree.
Mbeumo’s versatility allows him to play in multiple positions on the wings or in central attacking roles.
His speed, creativity, and effective finishing should provide a notable enhancement to United.
Mbeumo flourished during his six years at Brentford, scoring 70 goals and assisting 51 times in 242 matches across all competitions after moving from French side Troyes in 2019.
He was vital in helping the Bees gain promotion to the Premier League in 2021 and played a key role in their commendable 10th-place finish in the 2024-25 season.
