Ekiti boosts security with 404 new Amotekun, grazing marshals

The Governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, on Friday urged the 404 newly recruited members of the Amotekun, Agro Marshal, and Grazing Marshal corps to focus on reducing crime, safeguarding lives and property, and supporting agricultural initiatives to enhance food security.

Oyebanji emphasized the importance of improved intelligence gathering, sharing information, and collaborating with other security agencies to maintain safety throughout every corner of the state.

The governor, represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Brig. Gen. Ebenezer Ogundana (retd.), addressed the new recruits during their Passing Out Parade at the National Youth Service Corps Orientation Camp in Emure/Ise/Orun.

He characterized the enlistment of the new security personnel as a continuous investment in the state’s security framework and a reflection of the All Progressives Congress administration’s dedication to protecting the lives and property of the state’s residents.

He stated, “The addition of 404 personnel to the Amotekun, Agro Marshall, and Grazing Marshal Corps is part of the efforts to fortify the state’s security structure, particularly at the grassroots level.

“The addition of these new security operatives signifies a sustained investment in the state’s security framework, highlighting the administration's commitment to ensuring safety for the residents.

“This initiative aims to further enhance the state’s security system as the government deemed it essential to reorganize the security framework by establishing supplementary informal security groups that will engage the community and support the efforts of the formal security forces in the state.

“This initiative represents a significant step towards the collective goal of achieving a safer Ekiti State, following the directive given to security agencies to strengthen their approach in addressing the emerging security issues.”

Oyebanji attributed the state’s relatively peaceful environment to “intentional planning, ongoing investment, and coordinated efforts aimed at fostering a safe and supportive atmosphere to boost economic growth by safeguarding lives and property, protecting agricultural sectors to ensure food security, and enhancing intelligence collection and sharing.”

He also encouraged the new recruits to work together collaboratively.
