Liverpool agree to sign Frankfurt striker Ekitike in £69m deal

Liverpool have come to an agreement to sign Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike for a fee that starts at £69 million ($92 million), as reported on Monday.

The Premier League champions shifted their attention to Ekitike after Newcastle declined to sell Sweden striker Alexander Isak, who is estimated to be worth around £150 million by the Magpies.

Both Newcastle and Manchester United also showed interest in Ekitike, but Liverpool appears poised to secure the signing of one of Europe’s most promising young talents.

Reports suggest that the Reds have consented to pay an additional £10 million in potential add-ons to acquire the 23-year-old Frenchman, making his total transfer fee potentially reach £79 million.

Once the deal is finalized, Ekitike will join Arne Slot’s squad for their pre-season tour in Asia.

Last season, Ekitike netted 22 goals in 48 matches across all competitions for Frankfurt after moving to the Bundesliga club from Paris Saint-Germain.

He did not see any action during his team’s pre-season match against FSV Frankfurt on Saturday, with Eintracht manager Dino Toppmoller commenting that Ekitike's upcoming exit is “a bitter loss.”

Liverpool have a vacancy in their attacking lineup following Diogo Jota’s tragic death in a car accident in Spain.

The Reds are also reportedly open to parting ways with Uruguay striker Darwin Nunez, while they recently turned down a bid from Bayern Munich for Colombia forward Luis Diaz.

Liverpool has already invested £116 million in Germany playmaker Florian Wirtz and acquired defenders Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez from Bayer Leverkusen and Bournemouth, respectively.

Additionally, Georgia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has joined Arne Slot’s team since the conclusion of the last season after finalizing his transfer from Valencia in 2024.
