Tinubu launches the inaugural fleet of electric taxis in Maiduguri, Nigeria

On Monday in Maiduguri, President Bola Tinubu officially commissioned 107 mass transit vehicles, which included 50 electric taxis procured by the Borno State Government.

During the event, the President commended Governor Babagana Zulum for his visionary leadership and commitment to initiatives that benefit the people. Tinubu also revealed that the Federal Government is considering establishing a plant in the same vein to generate employment opportunities and enhance transportation services.

In Maiduguri on Monday, President Bola Tinubu officially commissioned 107 mass transit vehicles, a fleet that comprised 50 electric taxis acquired by the Borno State Government.

Addressing the gathering, the President praised Governor Babagana Zulum for his visionary policies and projects centered on the welfare of the people. He revealed that the Federal Government is contemplating establishing a facility in that direction to foster employment opportunities and improve transportation services.

Earlier in the day, Governor Zulum explained that his motivation for undertaking the project stemmed from a directive given by the President to governors following the removal of fuel subsidy. He highlighted that the deployment of 50 electric taxis marked a pioneering initiative in Nigeria, aligning with the imperatives of addressing climate change.

The vehicles inaugurated by President Tinubu included 50 electric taxis, 35 coaster buses, 12 Hummer buses, and 10 luxurious buses.

During his maiden official visit to the state, Tinubu paid a courtesy call on the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar El-Kanemi. Additionally, the President formally opened the annual Chief of Army Staff Conference.
