Labour Party Addresses Obi's Collaboration with Tinubu

On Tuesday, the leadership of the Labour Party (LP) addressed the potential collaboration between the party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and President Bola Tinubu. According to the party's leadership, there is no likelihood of Obi being enticed to work with Tinubu's administration.

This stance was articulated in separate interviews with the National Publicity Secretary of LP, Obiora Ifoh, and the National Legal Adviser of LP, Kehinde Edun, conducted by Punch.

The National Legal Adviser of LP emphasized that such a scenario is purely imaginary and will not materialize. He reiterated that Obi has already expressed his position, stating, “I think Obi has something he is pursuing, especially when we are sure we won the election. So it will be out of place for us to now say we want to work with this government. As far as LP is concerned, we are waiting for the Supreme Court to set aside the decision of the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal that will pronounce Obi as the winner. That’s what we are waiting for."

He further emphasized that until the Supreme Court concludes its proceedings, discussions about Obi collaborating with someone contesting the office are premature.

The party's spokesperson also affirmed that Obi remains undeterred by such speculations, emphasizing his current focus on reclaiming his mandate through the ongoing appeal at the Supreme Court. He stated, “We are still in the process of reclaiming our stolen mandate through our appeal at the Supreme Court. There is no way our candidate can be seen working for this government. For now, he is focused on the appeal at the apex.”
