Truck Plunge Claims Three Lives on Plateau Bridge
On Tuesday, three individuals tragically lost their lives as a truck plunged off an overhead bridge in Jos, the capital of Plateau State. The victims were reportedly trapped beneath the vehicle, resulting in their unfortunate demise, while three others sustained injuries.
Residents who gathered at the scene along Zaria Road affirmed the incident on Tuesday, mentioning that around 45 cows also perished in the crash, which occurred between 4 am and 5 am. According to Timothy Garuba, one of the residents who spoke with our correspondent, the accident occurred as the truck was ascending the flyover bridge within the Gada Biu/Kabong community in the early hours of Tuesday.
Garuba explained, "The driver of a truck lost control on the Kabong flyover bridge in Jos North Local Government Area early this morning."
"At around 4:30 am, the truck, transporting cows and passengers, toppled off the bridge, leaving passengers and several cows trapped underneath. I observed 45 cows scattered on the ground, lifeless, and some passengers trapped beneath the vehicle," stated Garuba.
The confirmed casualty figures were corroborated by Peter Langsan, the Public Education Officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps in the state, who added that both the deceased and the injured victims had been promptly evacuated to the hospital.
Langsan stated, "Our team has successfully completed the rescue operation at the scene. An articulated vehicle, carrying both cows and passengers, fell off the bridge. Unfortunately, three individuals lost their lives, and three others sustained injuries. All have been transported to the hospital."
Attributing the accident to speeding, Langsan issued a cautionary warning to motorists, urging them to refrain from transporting passengers in vehicles designated for cargo.
