Toddler in Lagos Electrocuted
A two-year-old girl, whose identity remains undisclosed, suffered electrocution by touching an exposed wire connected to her neighbor's residence in the Langbasa area of Lagos State. The tragic incident occurred on January 2, around 11:30 am.
The father of the deceased, Mudashiru, revealed in an interview on Monday that his daughter came into contact with a wire linked to his neighbor's gate, leading to her electrocution. He expressed deep sorrow over the sudden loss, emphasizing the pain of losing his beloved daughter, who held immense significance in his life. Mudashiru identified his neighbor involved in the incident as Michael.
He further mentioned that she was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, where the attending doctor confirmed her death. Her body has been placed in the mortuary.
“She was hurried to a hospital on Addo Road, where the attending medical doctor pronounced her dead. Her remains have been stored in the mortuary. I hope for peace for my daughter, as I will deeply miss her.”
A neighbor from the deceased's family, who chose not to reveal their identity, asserted that despite residents being routinely advised to secure all exposed wires in their residences, the young child was unaware of the particular wire involved in the incident.
“She was just a little girl who probably didn't realize that the object she touched was an exposed wire. Residents here have been cautioned to always secure any wires in their homes, especially when there are small children present.
"This unfortunate incident could have been prevented if proper precautions were taken. While I can only offer condolences to her parents, my advice to people in the neighborhood is to ensure they cover exposed wires connected to electricity to prevent such incidents from happening again."
When reached for comment, the State Command Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that the incident had been reported, and investigations are underway. He assured that any new developments regarding the issue would be shared.
