Rising Tensions in Africa: The Looming Threat of Conflict and Chaos

In a recent social media post, Fani-Kayode, formerly active on Twitter, expressed concern over the escalating number of military coups in Africa, stating that recent events in Niger Republic and Gabon signal a dangerous trend toward instability and conflict on the continent. He also suggested that the influence of neo-colonialists and imperialists plays a role in the growing tensions within the West African sub-region.


Furthermore, the African Union has taken a decisive step by suspending Gabon from its activities due to the military's seizure of power following the 2023 presidential election. The AU Commission for Political Affairs, Peace, and Security, in its 1172nd meeting, chaired by Ambassador Willy Nyamitwe of Burundi, declared that Gabon would remain excluded from AU engagements until democracy is reinstated in the country.
