NigComSat eyes $3b in annual earnings to power digital growth
The Director-General of Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited, Jane Egerton-Idehen, announced that the organization aims for an average annual revenue of $3 billion as part of its strategy to establish itself as a significant contributor to Nigeria’s digital economy. She made this statement on Thursday in Abuja during the July edition of the DevsInGovernment MDA Workshop Series, organized by the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, with contributions from Galaxy Backbone and the World Bank.
The session focused on the operational changes at NigComSat and was themed “Driving Operational Excellence through Technology at NigComSat.”
The DG mentioned that NigComSat is looking into new revenue sources beyond conventional broadcasting, with a strategic aim to extend the lifespan of its assets and offer creative solutions to Nigeria’s connectivity issues.
“Right now, we are expecting to generate about three billion dollars in annual revenue. If we can innovate, we can exceed that target, because increasing the life of your products allows you to offer more solutions to various challenges,” she stated.
Egerton-Idehen emphasized the importance of raising awareness regarding NigComSat’s services and solutions, pointing out that increased visibility is crucial for maintaining growth and attracting business clients.
Earlier, NigComSat’s Executive Director of Technical Services, Abiodun Attah, spoke about the agency’s recent initiatives aimed at closing Nigeria’s connectivity gaps.
He disclosed that NigComSat is collaborating with Mobile Network Operators to manage 2G, 3G, and 4G traffic in remote rural regions.
“In the past, NigComSat hesitated to engage with enterprises; it avoided conducting business outside the government sector,” Attah noted. “Now, we have moved past that.”
This development aligns with NigComSat’s comprehensive approach to reposition itself as a key player not only in broadcasting but also in enterprise connectivity, satellite broadband, and digital infrastructure services.
The DevsInGovernment initiative, which organized the workshop, is a growing network of technologists and public servants dedicated to facilitating digital transformation within Nigerian government agencies.
By highlighting NigComSat’s changing role, the session aimed to illustrate how technology can improve operational efficiency and broaden service delivery.
