Microsoft launches AI-Powered Designer app on iOS, Android
On Wednesday, Microsoft announced the formal launch of its AI-powered Designer app, which has moved from preview to general availability on iOS and Android. This program, like Canva, allows users to produce images and designs from text prompts, allowing them to create stickers, greeting cards, invitations, collages, and more.
Designer is currently available in over 80 languages via the web, a free mobile app, and Windows. The software includes "prompt templates" intended to spark creativity. These templates provide styles and descriptions that users can personalize and share with others to work on ideas.
Designer, in addition to stickers, allows you to create emojis, clip art, wallpapers, monograms, avatars, and more with text prompts. It also contains AI-powered image editing tools. Designer will soon add a "replace background" option, allowing users to modify photos with text suggestions.
Microsoft announced interoperability with apps such as Word and PowerPoint via Copilot alongside the debut of the standalone Designer app. Copilot Pro subscribers can generate pictures and designs without interrupting their workflow.
In the near future, Word users will be able to create a banner for their document based on its content.
As part of Wednesday's release, Microsoft demonstrated a more detailed integration of Designer with Microsoft Photos on Windows 11. Users can now edit photographs using AI from within the photographs app, including tasks such as object removal, background removal, and automatic cropping. This integration improves the editing tools available to users without leaving the Photos app UI.
