Mastercard beats profit forecast as travel, leisure spending rises

The Director-General of Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited, Jane Egerton-Idehen, stated that the agency aims for an average annual revenue of $3 billion as part of its efforts to establish itself as a significant contributor to Nigeria’s digital economy.

She made this announcement on Thursday in Abuja during the July installment of the DevsInGovernment MDA Workshop Series, which was organized by the Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, with assistance from Galaxy Backbone and the World Bank.

The session emphasized the operational transformation of NigComSat, themed “Driving Operational Excellence through Technology at NigComSat.”

The DG noted that NigComSat is investigating new revenue opportunities beyond its conventional broadcasting services, focusing strategically on extending the longevity of its assets and developing innovative solutions to tackle Nigeria’s connectivity issues.

“At present, we are estimating an average revenue of about three billion dollars annually. If we can brainstorm new ideas, we can achieve even more, as increasing product lifespans allows us to offer more solutions to existing problems,” she mentioned.

Egerton-Idehen highlighted the importance of raising awareness about NigComSat’s offerings and solutions, emphasizing that increased visibility is crucial for fostering growth and attracting enterprise clients.

Previously, NigComSat’s Executive Director of Technical Services, Abiodun Attah, spoke about the agency’s recent initiatives to close Nigeria’s connectivity gaps.

He disclosed that NigComSat is collaborating with Mobile Network Operators to support 2G, 3G, and 4G traffic in underserved rural regions.

“In the past, NigComSat was hesitant to engage in enterprise ventures and was reluctant to operate outside the government sector,” Attah remarked. “Now, we have moved beyond that.”

This expansion corresponds with NigComSat’s larger strategy to redefine its role not only in broadcasting but also in enterprise connectivity, satellite broadband, and digital infrastructure services.

The DevsInGovernment initiative, which coordinated the workshop, is a burgeoning network of tech professionals and public servants devoted to promoting digital transformation within Nigerian government agencies.

By highlighting NigComSat’s changing role, the session aimed to illustrate how technology can improve operational efficiency and expand service delivery.
