God is not a Christian, says popular Nigerian pastor

Well-known preacher Abel Damina has challenged his followers to abandon the notion that only Christians will enter paradise by outlining why God is not a Christian.

During a sermon on Monday, Damina, the senior pastor of Abel Damina Ministries International, disclosed this information.

He implied that Jesus was not even a Christian and chastised Christians who held the view that Christianity was the only faith that could lead to paradise.

He asserts that biblical figures like Abraham, David, and Jesus Christ referred to their followers as unbelievers rather than as "Christians," and that these holy individuals were only followers or believers, not "Christians" in the conventional sense.

"Many of you believe that God is a Christian," he continued. It's not a Christian God. Many of you falsely believe that you will not enter paradise if you are not a Christian. Before the advent of Christianity, people went to heaven. According to the Book of Acts, Christianity began in Antioch. That ought to make you a little more modest, and you ought to begin modifying your theology.

"And those who watch the people who were followers of Brother Paul's teachings are the unbelieving people who gave the name Christianity that you are carrying as a requirement to enter paradise." They observed these people's metamorphosis after they had been teaching for a while. They were referred to as believers and almajiris prior to that. They were Paul's disciples.

"Then the people replied, 'Let's call them Christians instead of disciples because of the change we perceive in them—that is, they now resemble Christ. However, a lot of individuals, including the thief on the cross, had already entered paradise. Thus, it is not necessary to be a Christian to enter heaven.

He made references to the fact that Jesus and other historical figures including Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Abel, Ishmael, and David were not Christians.

In his sermons, Damina frequently expresses unpopular opinions on important topics, forcing other pastors to disagree.

He received backlash for his remarks about treating a porn addiction.

He counselled those who are addicted to porn to continue watching while also listening to God's word, rather than trying to quit.

"Don't fight the urge to stop watching porn. Don't exert any effort. Continue to watch the porn. Spend more time hearing the "word" while you watch the porn. Spend three to four hours hearing the word of God for every hour you spend watching porn.

"Observe this. Get all of my lessons about Christ. Simply never stop learning. You will eventually discover that your appetite for the Bible is growing and your appetite for porn is waning. You won't realise how quickly seeing porn will irritate you.

"The Word of God will give you a healthy hunger and entirely destroy that appetite. That is the appropriate course of action. Try not to give up. In fact, the pastor said, "If you continue to watch and devote more time to studying God's word, you will discover that your craving for porn will vanish quickly."

But this was met with criticism, particularly from angry conservative Christians on social media who thought the pastor was pushing people—mostly addicts—to commit sins.

Gideon Odoma, a well-known pastor from the Fortress Ministry, rejected Damina's surrender and called pornography a depravity.

"Christains have devalued sexual encounters." We must never refer to the things that God calls injustices as "flexing," he stressed.
