Arik Air attributed the cancellation of flights at the Port Harcourt airport to adverse weather cond
Arik Air has clarified that the recent incident causing stranded passengers at Port Harcourt Airport on April 2 was a result of adverse weather conditions. The airline emphasized this in a statement by its Public Relations Manager, Adebanji Ola, on Thursday.
Recent viral videos depicted passengers expressing frustration after their flight from Port Harcourt to Lagos was suddenly cancelled. The affected passengers shared their grievances on social media platforms.
Arik Air reiterated its commitment to safety, explaining that strict policies are in place to avoid flying in adverse weather conditions, leading to the cancellation of the affected flight. The airline apologized to customers for any disruptions to their travel plans and reaffirmed its dedication to prioritizing passenger welfare.
"On the evening of Tuesday, April 2, 2024, adverse weather conditions, notably heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in Port Harcourt, forced our flight W3 744 from Lagos to Port Harcourt to make an air return. Consequently, both the Lagos-Port Harcourt (W3 744) and Port Harcourt-Lagos (W3 745) flights had to be cancelled.
"It's important to highlight that at the time of cancellation, our banking facilities at the airport were no longer operational, making funds inaccessible. However, passengers were promptly briefed on the situation and advised to return the following day for re-protection on available flights.
"On Wednesday, April 3, 2024, all affected passengers from both Lagos and Port Harcourt were successfully accommodated on available morning and evening flights."
