PDP Leader in Ekiti, Lere Olayinka, Slams Critics of Ayodele Fayose as 'Political Almajiris'
Lere Olayinka, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, has characterized those advocating for the suspension of the former state governor, Ayodele Fayose, from the party as 'political novices' who have never achieved electoral success without him.
It was previously reported by Naija News that the Ekiti State chapter of the PDP called for Fayose's expulsion from the party. According to the Ekiti PDP, this decision has been communicated to the National Working Committee (NWC). The Publicity Secretary of the Caretaker Transition Committee, Olalekan Amerijoye, revealed this development to journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday. He cited the party's frustration with Fayose and other PDP leaders in the state for their divisive and anti-party actions as the reason for the call for expulsion.
However, in a statement issued on Thursday, Lere Olayinka found amusement in the fact that those leading the charge against Fayose seemed to be out of touch with the reality that elections were over, and there would be no easy access to funds. Olayinka, who contested a House of Representatives seat in the last general elections, opined that the PDP had lost its political momentum and should concentrate on reconciliation to prevent further decline.
He expressed, "The current state of the PDP is such that the party should be humbling itself and reaching out to individuals to encourage them to reengage with the party. It has become a party that has significantly diminished in its political influence, and the current leadership should shed their pride to save the party from complete collapse.
"It's apparent that the political figures in Ekiti, who have traditionally relied on Fayose to secure electoral victories, may not have recognized the new reality. Unlike before, the PDP is no longer the preferred destination, and they may simply be posturing to maintain their access to political resources."
