iPhone, other foreign smartphone sales drop in China
Foreign-branded smartphone sales, including Apple's iPhone, fell 44.25% year on year in October, according to fresh data issued Wednesday by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology.According to the report, foreign smartphone sales in China fell to 6.22 million units last month, from 11.149 million in October 2023. Apple, China's biggest foreign smartphone manufacturer, has a substantial impact on the overall drop in international phone sales.
Apple, which introduced its iPhone 16 models in September, has yet to reveal the much-anticipated AI function for the Chinese market, which is scheduled to be available next year.
The company has yet to designate a local AI partner for the Chinese market, which adds to the uncertainty.
Despite a steep dip in foreign-brand sales, total smartphone sales in China climbed by 1.8% to 29.67 million devices in October, demonstrating that domestic demand remains strong.
