Two-year-old child dies from starvation in the United Kingdom
Bronson Battersby, a two-year-old toddler, tragically succumbed to starvation beside his deceased father Kenneth, who had suffered a heart attack five days earlier in the United Kingdom, as reported by Daily Mail.
According to the family, Battersby was discovered curled up in his pajamas next to his father, aged 60, who is presumed to have had a heart attack shortly after being last seen alive on Boxing Day.
Following a routine visit by a social worker to their residence in Skegness, Lincolnshire, on January 2, where no one answered, the police were contacted. Subsequent attempts on January 4 also went unanswered, prompting the social worker to alert the police once again.
In a shocking turn of events, the lifeless bodies of Kenneth and the vulnerable toddler, Bronson, who was supposed to be checked on weekly, went undiscovered until January 9. The social worker took matters into her own hands, using a key from the landlord to access the home.
Sarah Piesse, the toddler's mother aged 43, had last seen her son before Christmas following a disagreement with her ex. She expressed her frustration, telling The Sun, "If social services had fulfilled their responsibilities, Bronson would still be alive. Unfortunately, they neglected to take any action."
"I find it unbelievable. They cannot allow them to escape responsibility for this. We should be able to trust social workers to ensure the safety of our children."
"I've received the results of the post-mortem. Bronson's death occurred because his father passed away. They believe Kenneth died no earlier than December 29. This implies that if the social worker had insisted on gaining entry when there was no response on January 2, Bronson would still be alive."
On Facebook, Bronson’s sister, Melanie Battersby, posted, "Our beautiful little boy deserved a much better life than this. We love you, Bronson, forever a part of us, and forever my baby brother."
Expressing that her 'head and heart' were in turmoil, she conveyed, "There's a lot of anger inside at the moment when I just want to remember his little smile and soft nature instead. He was perfect."
Sarah, a mother-of-three, last saw Bronson following a disagreement with Kenneth just before Christmas.
A family friend mentioned that the toddler took delight in watching Cocomelon, had a great fondness for nursery rhymes, and frequently played with his Little Tykes drum kit.
Bronson's last confirmed sighting was by a neighbor who visited the house on Boxing Day. Subsequently, Kenneth messaged the same neighbor expressing gratitude, stating, "Thanks so much for caring; it means the world to me and Bronson."
On that very day, the social worker reached out to Kenneth via text to schedule a visit on January 2. After receiving no response during the scheduled visit, she alerted the police. The same pattern repeated on January 4.
Taking matters into her own hands, the social worker entered the property on January 9, utilizing a key provided by the landlord. Inside, she discovered the lifeless bodies of Bronson and Kenneth. Subsequently, the police and paramedics were summoned to the scene around 3:25 pm, pronouncing both individuals dead on-site.
Kenneth, unemployed and grappling with a pre-existing heart condition, had experienced severe jaundice in the months leading up to his demise.
Bronson, categorized as vulnerable by social services, received weekly visits from social workers.
Heather Sandy, the executive director for children’s services, commented, "This incident is truly tragic, and we are providing support to the family during this challenging time."
