Shaibu extends his apologies to Governor Obaseki
Following a prolonged period of tension, Edo State Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, issued a formal apology to his superior, Governor Godwin Obaseki, on Thursday, expressing his sincere remorse and seeking forgiveness.
He extended his apology during the ceremony where he was inaugurated by the Catholic Men Organisation Nigeria (CMN).
Following his investiture, Shaibu addressed reporters and urged Governor Obaseki to forgive and move forward. He also mentioned that he had relocated to his new office in compliance with the governor's instructions. However, he noted that there was still some work to be completed at his new office situated at 7 Osadebey Avenue. When asked if he had started working from his new office, Shaibu replied, "We have resumed, but there is still much work to be done there. There's no issue with that. The governor has instructed us to move there. As I have consistently demonstrated, I am a loyal public servant, and nothing has changed."
"I made a personal commitment to support my governor, and you can see that my fellow Catholics are here. When I make a vow to God, nothing can alter it. I hope that the strong relationship we once had will be restored in the coming days and weeks.
"I miss my governor, and by the grace of God, He will mend the governor's heart, bring us all together, and reconcile any differences between us.
"I have good intentions. If I've made any mistakes as a human, it wasn't out of malice because I know I'm not a malicious person. My heart is pure."
"I'd like to take this opportunity to appeal to Mr. Governor. If there's anything I may have done unknowingly, please forgive me so that we can work together to develop our state."
