Politicians sowing seeds of discord among Nigerians
Mr Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate in the February 25 general election, has claimed that politicians are using politics to sow seeds of strife among Nigerians.
Obi revealed this on Sunday in Onitsha, Anambra State, while visiting the Muslim community to commemorate the Sallah holiday.
He noted that Nigerians are one people, but when politics enters the picture, desperate politicians who seek to reap what they did not sow invariably introduce segregation by attempting to split residents along ethnic and religious lines.
The former Anambra State governor presented the Muslim community with bags of rice, cartons of noodles, and packs of soft beverages, and prayed to Allah to accept their fasting and sacrifices and grant them a good life.

"I am here today to celebrate with you on this year's occasion," he remarked. Nigeria is a single country. I am a Nigerian who believes in Nigeria and that we are all one, regardless of tribe or religion. I have never prejudiced against anyone because of their faith and would never do so.
"The only thing that separates us is politics." When it comes to elections, some politicians engage in divisive campaigns, but this should not be the case. One of my companies is run by a northerner from Kano, and it is doing well.
"You are all my brothers, and I am yours." Today is a day for celebration, not politics. I arrived after the election because if I had come during politics, people would have assumed I was running for president.
"No one has supported the Muslim community in Anambra as much as I have." This mosque was formerly demolished, but when I became governor, I reconstructed it the way it is now. We regard you as a member of our community, and I want you to know that no one can prohibit you from living here and conducting your business.
"I live in Onitsha, and if you need to contact me, please do so." If you require my services in the fields of healthcare or education, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Earlier, Alhaji Abdulrahman Imam, Chief Imam of Onitsha Central Mosque, praised Obi, saying he was the first governor in the state who visited members of the Muslim community at every celebration to congratulate them.
"You rebuilt this mosque after it was demolished years ago." You came to see us at the Army barracks while we were having issues. You have always visited us for festivals like this during your tenure as governor, so you are not new to us.
"During your eight years as governor, you sponsored many of our members to Mecca. You did all of this despite the fact that you are a Christian. That is why, even as Christians, we say, "We are with you."
Mr Mahmud Imam, secretary and spokesperson for the Hausa community in Onitsha, also stated that the Hausa community has decided to support Obi and would continue to hope that he succeeds and leads Nigeria since his ability to lead is undeniable.
"We know what you are capable of; you did it here while you were governor," Imam replied.
"We (the Hausa community) have the most registered voters in Odoakpu ward four here, and we voted for you with no regrets."
"We saw you during campaigns, visiting interior parts of the north, places where presidential candidates of northern descent were afraid to go." We are pleased that you represented extremely well, and that you validated us by conveying to our people that you were the best candidate for the post."
