Mike Tyson, Jake Paul bout disrupt Netflix service

Netflix had a massive disruption that affected thousands of customers in the United States and India, coinciding with the Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul boxing event.

Downdetector.com recorded more than 80,000 instances of Netflix being unavailable in the United States. The problem was eventually repaired, and the #Netflixcrash hashtag trended on X (previously Twitter).

The outage looked to be broad, with customers reporting problems accessing Netflix in different locations of the United States and India.

The source of the disturbance is unknown, and Netflix has not yet issued an official statement.

Downdetector.com had a peak of 80,420 outage reports, which eventually dropped to roughly 9,000. Among those affected, 86% had streaming troubles, 10% had server connection issues, and 4% had login issues.

In India, the outage peaked around 9:30 AM, with over 1,295 reports of Netflix-related troubles. Of these, 84% had troubles with video streaming, 10% with the app, and 8% with the website.

Frustrated users turned to social media to express their concerns and ask for updates on the outage. Many users reported errors and were unable to stream material. Hashtags such as #Netflixfight, #Netflixcrash, and #CancelNetflix became popular on the social networking site X as people reported their experiences.

A user on X with the handle @CCPISASSHOE commented "If Netflix doesn't fix this buffering issue, this will go down as one of the biggest fails in all of tv/streaming history ‍♀️ #PaulTyson."

A another person complained: "Microphones and earpieces for the hosts aren't working, the stream keeps crashing, and the commentators seem confused at times."

A viewer described the technological difficulties as "disruptive".
