Four Arrested for Torturing 14-Year-Old Over Theft Suspicions in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has apprehended four individuals, including three male hunters and a woman, on allegations of subjecting a 14-year-old boy named Abobo Nasani to torture. The incident is related to the suspected theft of N21,000 cash.

Nasani, a resident of Tasala community in Demsa Local Government Area, was accused of taking the money that belonged to another community member, Ngularo Pemu. Pemu, believing Nasani was responsible, reported the incident to the local hunters.

The hunters, identified as Kanisi India (35), Paul India (25), and Dickson Hani (30), along with Pemu, are being investigated for reportedly flogging the minor while pouring petrol and local gin (Ogogoro) on him. The boy was allegedly tied to a tree, tortured, and kept without food for two days before being abandoned by the roadside in Demsa.

After a preliminary investigation, the hunters claimed that the boy had stolen the money but was not revealing its whereabouts. Subsequently, they released him by the roadside after failing to find evidence linking him to the theft.

The suspects have admitted their involvement in the incident and expressed remorse for their actions. The Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed that the state Commissioner of Police ordered their arrest upon receiving a complaint from the boy's father. The suspects are expected to face prosecution as the case proceeds to court.
