FG, Google partner to unlock Nigeria’s AI potential

The Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, in collaboration with Google, has revealed the 10 startups chosen for the N100 million AI Fund.

The AI Fund, created by the National Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics in partnership with Google, will grant each of the selected startups N10 million in funding along with up to $3.5 million in Google Cloud Credits.

Furthermore, the chosen startups will gain access to Google’s cutting-edge AI tools, mentorship from AI specialists at Google, and opportunities to connect with a worldwide network of innovators and collaborators.

The 10 startups selected for the AI Fund consist of: BetaLife Health, Bunce, CDIAL AI, Farmspeak, Lendsqr, ProDevs, Rana Energy, SaaSPro Health, Towntalk, and Trade Lenda.

As stated by Google, the startups selected will concentrate on areas such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and governance.

This strategy aims to address local issues and promote sustainable economic growth through the use of AI technologies.

“Entrepreneurs across Africa are utilizing the capabilities of technology, including AI, to tackle significant societal challenges,” remarked Matt Brittin, President of Google for Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.

“Google is dedicated to supporting these innovators, aiding them in broadening their influence across the continent and beyond.

“Our efforts in Africa have consistently focused on unlocking the advantages of the digital economy for a larger audience, and this collaboration reinforces that vision,” he continued.

This initiative is in line with a larger report highlighting the economic opportunities AI presents in Nigeria.

According to research by Public First, AI has the potential to add up to $15 billion to Nigeria’s economy by 2030.

By providing local entrepreneurs and innovators with the necessary tools, resources, and training, this initiative seeks to tap into that potential, emphasizing the significance of this partnership for Nigeria’s digital future.
