Creditors tells FG to repay ₦12bn loan borrowed by civil servants
The Humanity Development and Empowerment Organisation urges the federal government to refund the ₦12 billion borrowed by civil officials. The outgoing national president of HDEO, commonly known as the Lenders Association, Osita Nebolisa, stated that the government deducted loans from workers but did not remit the payments to creditors.
Nebolisa, the founder of Visa Microfinance Bank, requested the incoming president of the Lenders Association, Dele Apanisile, and his staff to engage with the Office of the Federation's Accountant-General to resolve the situation.
He emphasised the need for action to resolve the failure to repay the ₦12 billion deducted from civil servant loans.
"One of our most pressing challenges remains the recovery of more than N12 billion," the outgoing president stated as he handed over to the incoming executive council. "The incoming leadership, which consists mostly of seasoned members of the current team, adds essential continuity to this effort.
"To those few who may have reservations, I appeal for unified support of their strategies to retrieve these funds and prevent future losses through the IPPIS deduction system."
Nebolisa led the association of commercial banks, microfinance banks, and finance firms in disbursing approximately ₦6 billion in loans to over 2,000 civil personnel.
He further added that in 2023, a Service Level Agreement was signed with the Office of the OAGF to develop a framework for equitable credit access and to protect stakeholders' interests.
