A hit-and-run driver fatally strikes a man in Lagos

A 33-year-old man, identified as Seun, tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run incident at Jakande, along the Lekki-Epe Expressway in Lagos State. According to a police source who spoke anonymously to our correspondent on Sunday, Seun had parked his Lexus car by the expressway when a Honda vehicle collided with it from behind.

Upon impact, Seun promptly exited his vehicle and signaled to the driver of the Honda to inspect the damage caused to his car.

As per the source, the driver of the Honda vehicle, in an attempt to flee the scene, maneuvered towards Seun and fatally struck him.

"A Honda Accord, driven by an unidentified individual, collided with a Lexus car owned by Seun, which was parked along the expressway. When Seun requested the Honda driver to inspect the damage caused to his car, the driver declined. Instead, he deliberately hit Seun with his car and sped away," the source explained.

Additionally, the source mentioned that the driver of the Honda Accord, while attempting to escape the accident scene, lost control of the vehicle and collided with an electric pole in the Igbo Efon vicinity of the community.

He reportedly abandoned his vehicle in the middle of the road and fled the scene.

Meanwhile, upon arrival at the scene, some police officers swiftly transported the deceased victim to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

"The Motor Transport Division promptly responded to the incident. Seun Sahola was rushed to the hospital for medical attention, where he was unfortunately pronounced dead by the attending physician," the source revealed.

When contacted, Benjamin Hundeyin, the spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, verified the incident.

Hundeyin stated, "The deceased's body has been taken to the mortuary for autopsy, and the abandoned vehicle involved in the accident is currently in police custody. An investigation is underway to apprehend the driver involved."
