Zamfara Government Accuses Matawalle of Mismanaging Over N1 Billion in Abandoned Hotel Project
The Zamfara State government has alleged that Bello Matawalle, the Minister of State for Defence, mishandled over 1 billion Naira in an incomplete Gusau hotel project. This information was disclosed in a statement on Wednesday in Gusau by Sulaiman Bala, the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the current Zamfara governor.
As per the statement, the former governor approved a payment of 1,011,801,545.79 billion Naira to 180 Circle Construction & Engineering Ltd. for the Gusau Motel construction, which remained unfinished. Additionally, the government claims that Matawalle overpaid the contractor by N667,713,161.64 million.
Key points highlighted in the statement include the revelation of questionable projects initiated by the preceding administration, such as the Gusau Motel construction. It details the contract awarded in July 2020, the mobilization fees paid, and subsequent disbursements totaling 1,011,801,545.79 billion Naira. Despite these payments, essential components of the project were not initiated.
The statement expresses concern over the overpayment of 667,713,161.64 million Naira, leading to project abandonment. The completed work on-site, as evidenced by pictures, is valued at N344,088,384.15, representing 29.94% progress.
In conclusion, the government affirms its commitment to transparency and accountability, vowing to uncover any actions breaching the people's trust and holding those responsible accountable. They emphasize their dedication to the Rescue Mission and ensuring that financial misconduct does not go unpunished.
