UEFA to refund Liverpool fans for Champions League final tickets
UEFA announced on Tuesday that it will refund all Liverpool fans' tickets to the 2022 Champions League final after an investigation discovered that a series of organizational failures "almost led to a disaster" outside the Stade de France.
The refund scheme covers the entire Liverpool allocation of 19,618 tickets, with supporters receiving the full cost of their ticket back from European football's governing body, with prices ranging from £59.40 to £585.70 for a seat at last year's incident-plagued final in Paris.
Liverpool was involved in the process that led to this decision, having an early influence on discussions.
The refund comes after their fans were indiscriminately sprayed with tear gas, causing crushes around the stadium before the game, but were initially blamed for the disruptions by UEFA and the French government.
Both later rebutted those claims, with a UEFA-commissioned report later praising their actions and stating that the two governing bodies' organizational failures could have had catastrophic consequences.
