Tobi Amusan to Defend 100m Hurdles Title at 2023 World Athletics Championships

Tobi Amusan, the Nigerian sprint hurdler, is set to begin defending her 100m women's hurdles title today at the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary. Her race is scheduled for 6:12pm Nigerian time at the National Athletics Centre in Budapest.

Having been granted permission to compete in the Championship by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) following a Whereabouts Failure Charge, the 26-year-old athlete is in high spirits.

Tobi Amusan, hailing from Ogun State, has been designated to run in lane four for the final heat of the first round. She will be competing alongside Megan Tapper of Jamaica, the Olympic bronze medalist, in this heat. Amusan's objective is to secure one of the four automatic spots for the semi-finals.

In the previous World Athletics Championships held in Oregon, USA, Amusan began her campaign by setting a new African record of 12.40. She then achieved an extraordinary feat by smashing the 12.20 world record set by Kendra Harrison in 2016 with a remarkable time of 12.12. Her remarkable performance culminated in winning a historic gold medal, marking her as the first Nigerian world outdoor champion.
