The Sports Minister sets sights on the AFCON trophy's return

Senator John Enoh, Nigeria's Minister of Sports Development, has urged the Super Eagles to secure victory in the Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast next year. This call comes after the team concluded their qualifying campaign with a resounding 6-0 win against Sao Tome and Principe in Uyo on Sunday.

Striker Victor Osimhen scored a hat-trick, with Ademola Lookman, Taiwo Awoniyi, and Samuel Chukwueze also finding the net, completing a double over the True Parrots, who suffered a 10-0 loss in the first leg last year.

In response to the match's outcome, Enoh congratulated the team for their impressive performance, acknowledging their appreciation for the support of Nigerians. He passionately urged the team to clinch the AFCON title next year.

"On behalf of the entire Nigerian populace, I extend heartfelt congratulations to the Super Eagles for their remarkable performance, which has brought immense pride to our nation. As we gracefully conclude our qualification journey, I implore the team to face the challenges ahead in Ivory Coast next year with unwavering determination. Our ultimate goal is to see the AFCON trophy return to Nigeria, and we are fully committed to making this aspiration a reality," he affirmed.

"The Ministry of Sports Development will leave no stone unturned in ensuring that the team receives the best possible preparation as we strive to bring glory to Nigeria. Our players have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to representing our nation, and I trust that this renewed sense of patriotism will continue to inspire the team during the AFCON tournament."

The Super Eagles secured their qualification with a game to spare, having defeated Sierra Leone 3-2 in June, concluding the qualifying campaign with 15 points from six games to claim the top spot in Group A.
