The NBBF Men's Premier League commences in four cities with 26 clubs competing for championship hono
The 2023 NBBF Premier Basketball League, which had been delayed, finally kicked off over the weekend in four different cities, featuring a total of 26 clubs vying for the coveted Final Eight slots.
These host cities include Abuja, Asaba, Lafia, and Ibadan. Fourteen of the participating clubs are assigned to the Savannah Conference, while the remaining twelve belong to the Atlantic Conference, with each conference further divided into Groups A and B.
In the Group based in Abuja, notable teams such as Kano Pillars, Nigeria Customs, Nigeria Army, Niger Potters, Nile University, Bauchi Nets, and Kada Stars will contend, while Group B, playing in Lafia, features teams like Benue Braves, Correctional, Gboko City Chiefs, Gombe Bulls, Mark Mentors, NSCDC Defenders, and Plateau Peaks.
As for the Asaba center, teams including Rivers Hoopers, Delta Force, Police Batons, Lagos Legends, and Lagos Raptors are set to compete. In the Ibadan center, the defending champions, Kwara Falcons, will face off against strong opponents like Hoops and Reads, Lagos Islanders, Impressions, Comets, Ondo Raiders, Invaders, and Oluyole Warriors.
The tournament in the Asaba center will commence with a match between Lagos Legends and Delta Force, followed immediately by the game between Lagos Raptors and Police Batons.
In the Ibadan center, the weekend matches saw Kwara Falcons, the defending champions, triumphing over Comets with a score of 60-55, while Hoops and Reads secured a convincing victory against Ondo Raiders with a score of 78-49. Oluyole Warriors managed to edge out Impressions with a score of 48-42.
The top two teams from each group will progress to the Final Eight, scheduled to take place in Lagos next month.
It is worth noting that the ultimate winner of the 2023 NBBF Premier League will have the privilege of representing Nigeria in the 2024 Basketball Africa League (BAL) to be held in Kigali, Rwanda.
