Spanish FA President's Mother Released from Hospital Following Hunger Strike
Angeles Bejar, identified as the mother of Luis Rubiales, the President of the Spanish FA, has been discharged from the hospital after participating in a hunger strike prompted by her son's controversial kissing incident. Bejar's hospitalization occurred on Wednesday, a mere three days subsequent to her act of locking herself inside a church in protest against the handling of her son's matter.
The controversy stems from FIFA's suspension of the Spanish Football Federation President in light of a kiss exchanged between him and Jenni Hermoso during the World Cup final awards ceremony on August 20 in Sydney.
Hermoso asserted that the occurrence, which transpired during the award presentation, was non-consensual. Bejar informed the Spanish news agency EFE, upon entering the Divina Pastora church in Motril on Spain's southern coast on Monday, that the hunger strike would persist 'indefinitely, day and night.
She said, “My son does not deserve the inhuman and bloody hunt that they are doing with him.”
She was moved to a hospital in Motril on Wednesday, according to Father Antonio, a local priest who spoke to Reuters.
“She had not been feeling well because of the heat and everything else,” the priest said.
“Her feet had become swollen and she was very tired. She had also become very anxious.”
Bejar was discharged from the hospital after doing well in rehabilitation, according to EFE. Her embattled son reportedly led her out of the hospital.
