Paris 2024 Qualifier: Banyana Coach Greets Key Trio for Decisive Match vs. Nigeria

South Africa's Banyana Banyana head coach, Desiree Ellis, is thrilled to welcome back experienced trio Bambanani Mbane, Refiloe Jane, and Sibulele Holweni for the crucial 2024 Olympic Games qualifier against Nigeria's Super Falcons.

The trio is rejoining the squad since their last appearance in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.

Mbane, Jane, and Holweni are included in the 24-player squad set to face the Super Falcons in the two-legged contest.

Ellis emphasized that the return of these players is a timely boost for their team's aspirations to qualify for Paris 2024.

"There's one invaluable asset you can't buy: experience," Ellis remarked upon announcing her squad. "We also have a number of talented young players."

"Experience is invaluable; it can make a huge difference," she continued. "These players have been through tough situations and have shown resilience. We also have the energy and enthusiasm of youth, and it's crucial for us to strike the right balance."

"We have promising young talents like Karabo Dhlamini, Nthabiseng Majiya, Fikile Magama, Sinoxolo, and Noxolo Cesane. It's vital for us to blend youth and experience effectively."

The first leg will be hosted by Nigeria at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja on Friday.

The second leg will occur at Loftus Stadium in Pretoria on Tuesday, April 9.

The victor of this match will join Brazil, Japan, and Spain in Group C at the Olympic Games in Paris scheduled for July and August.
