Omeruo Blames Peseiro for Defensive Tactics Against Ivory Coast
Kenneth Omeruo, a defender for the Super Eagles, expressed his dissatisfaction with Coach Jose Peseiro's tactics following Nigeria's loss to Ivory Coast in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final on Sunday.
The ex-Chelsea player criticized the team's overly defensive approach and conveyed his disappointment at not securing the AFCON trophy in a post-game interview with reporters.
Discussing the match, Peseiro remarked, "I believe we adopted a defensive stance right from the beginning, and sustaining such a strategy for an extended period can be challenging. One error, and the opposition seizes the opportunity to score. Starting with a defensive approach exhausts the team early on, and I regret that we couldn't secure the trophy."
It's worth noting that Ivory Coast secured a 2-1 triumph over the Super Eagles, with goals from Franck Kessie and Sebastien Haller. Captain William Troost-Ekong did manage to contribute a goal for Peseiro's team during the game.
