NPFL has imposed a N6 million fine on Kwara United for violating broadcast regulations and spreading

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has fined Kwara United N6 million for disrupting the live broadcast of their matchday 31 game against Akwa United. The club was also penalized for providing false information that led to a fixture change.

Kwara United requested their game against Akwa United be moved from Saturday, April 20, to Sunday, April 21, due to a purported state government event at the stadium. However, it was discovered that the claim was false, leading to the fine.

The fine was detailed in a memo sent to the club.

The memo stated: "You are in breach of Rule C1.1 of the Frameworks and Rules of the NPFL, as on Thursday, April 18, 2024, prior to your Match Day 31 fixture: Kwara United FC vs. Akwa United FC, you applied late for a rearrangement of the fixture outside the prescribed timeframe. This application was based on a lie and supported by falsified documents, actions capable of bringing the game into disrepute.

"You are also in breach of Rule B6.23 of the Frameworks and Rules of the Nigeria Premier Football League, as on Thursday, April 18, 2024, prior to your Match Day 31 fixture, you disrupted the live broadcast of the game by falsely claiming that your home ground was unavailable."

Kwara United has 48 hours to appeal the ruling.
