Michael Owen praises Chelsea star's unexpected brilliance

Michael Owen, the former Liverpool and Manchester United striker, has changed his stance on Chelsea star Cole Palmer, acknowledging that Palmer is a more impressive player than he had previously believed.

Owen conceded that his perception of Palmer had evolved, citing Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola's decision to allow the Englishman to join Chelsea as a factor that initially cast doubt on Palmer's quality.

During his appearance on Premier League Productions, the former England attacker showered praise on the young player, labeling him as a standout performer for the Blues.

His comments came in response to Palmer's remarkable achievement of scoring four goals in Chelsea's 6-0 victory over Everton.

"Yeah, I must admit (he has surprised me)," he said. "I knew he was a good player. However, in the back of my mind, I had reservations. If he was truly exceptional, then Pep Guardiola wouldn't have sanctioned his departure.

"He did express his desire to leave, and Pep Guardiola doesn't usually impede players who wish to move on. But if Palmer was truly exceptional, Guardiola would have insisted on retaining him and providing more playing time.

"I've always harbored doubts, thinking, 'Surely, he can't be that good.' But he truly is! He's been outstanding this season, emerging as a standout performer for Chelsea."
