Lagos Unveils Traffic Diversion Plan for Access Bank Marathon
The Lagos State Government has released a traffic advisory for the upcoming Access Bank Lagos City Marathon scheduled for Saturday, occurring between 5:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. This information was conveyed by Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner for Transportation, in a statement issued on Friday in Lagos.
During the marathon, motorists are advised that the following routes will be temporarily closed, according to Osiyemi.
The routes affected during the marathon include Funsho Williams Avenue from Stadium to Surulere, Ikorodu Road to Anthony, Gbagada to Third Mainland Bridge, Third Mainland Bridge (inbound and outbound), Dolphin Road to Alfred Rewane Road, Falomo roundabout to Bourdillon Road, Lekki Bridge to Freedom Way, and Akin-Adesola to Ahmadu BelloWay, according to Osiyemi. Alternative routes include Apongbon Bridge towards Eko Bridge through Costain Roundabout, Iponri, and Bode Thomas, or using Eko Bridge through Costain Roundabout and Apapa Road to reach Oyingbo/Jebba for access to Herbert Macaulay and your desired destination.
Motorists have the option to travel through Victoria Island, accessing Independence Bridge and CMS Bridge to reach Apongbon, then continuing inwards Ijora-Olopa to Iddo and Oyingbo. From there, they can connect to Herbert Macaulay Road to proceed with their journeys.
Osiyemi also mentioned that the Third Mainland Bridge will not be accessible to motorists from midnight until the conclusion of the marathon. Outbound journeys from Ikorodu Road, Funsho Williams Avenue towards Lagos Island, however, will not be affected by the diversion. LASEMA officers will be stationed at diversion points to ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of motorists.
Osiyemi, however, advised motorists without essential business along the marathon diversion routes to steer clear of these areas.
He further mentioned that normal traffic conditions on the Third Mainland Bridge would resume immediately after the marathon.
